GIN IS A distilled alcoholic beverage made from grains like barley, wheat, corn, or rye and flavored with juniper berries and other botanical ingredients. The juniper berries and other botanicals are added during production, and these are what gives the gin its unique flavor.

Standard gin is considered acceptable by many kashrus agencies even without certification, unless the label states that it is produced from grapes, wine, milk, lactose, or whey. Often, gin from France, Ireland, New Zealand, and Australia is produced from one of the abovementioned ingredients and therefore should not be used unless it has proper kosher certification.

Flavored gin (e.g., lemon flavored) requires kosher certification and Sloe Gin is a liqueur and requires kosher certification.
